Being a mom is joy beyond belief…at least it has been for me…however, it does come with its own set of challenges. Mom life is tough y’all!

Sure there are the inevitable sleepless nights, teething babies, and diaper blowouts in the beginning. But those weren’t the tough parts for me.

My struggles came in the form of carving out a work/life/family balance. Being a military family, Kevin has been gone quite a bit from our lives. If it wasn’t a deployment, it was a three month school out of state…or a three year tour on Parris Island where he was non-existent in our lives…or the time he moved to Quantico, VA to travel with the President while the girls and I stayed in NC and he commuted home on the weekends.

We decided early on that I was to be the constant in the lives of our girls. And that has looked different at every duty station and in each season of life. They’ve been in daycare while I taught full time. We’ve done childcare trades with friends who were also working from home. I’ve been home full time. And I’ve had a business out of our home. We’ve done ALL THE THINGS.

Each move or season brought intense and constant prayers that God would send the perfect opportunity my way so that I could be a mom first and then figure out the rest as it unfolded. And He has never failed me in those answered prayers. It hasn’t been a smooth ride….but each time I presented my time and talents to God (of which He actually gave me in the first place)…He provided a way for me to use them to serve those around me as well as serve my family.

Have there been financial sacrifices…YOU BET!!!!! Have there been struggles and failures and tears…YOU BET!!!!

But God has worked all things out for my good and for the good of our family.

So the day I prayed for a “new better”….I had no idea what that meant or what that would look like. I knew that I needed to grow my income, but that I literally couldn’t take on more clients. It was physically impossible. It would mean more time away from my family…which was not an option and my body is getting older and shooting sessions 3-4 nights a week takes it’s toll.

You know when you hear those still small whispers and you go “wait…are you sure?” “But God…” “I’m not sure that I can do that…people will think I’m weird.”

Yep…

That was me. God and I went back and forth quite a bit. I did my research, asked all the questions, prayed even harder for even longer….and I kept coming back to the same answer.

And then a friend entered with the same idea God had planted in that whisper that I was still researching and dragging my feet on. He often uses other people to push or nudge us I think.

So I just jumped with faith and fear…but I knew that God has never let me down…His path for me has always been the right one.
