The impact that a beautiful portrait can have on your child’s self-image is priceless….

Raising three teenage daughters is not for the faint of heart….yes, please pray for me! 🙂 Tweens and teens face monumental hurdles that we never dreamed of. Their lives are lived through social media. They tweet, snap, facetime, instagram…yeah, they’re not on facebook, that’s for us old folks!! When I say media, I’m talking about their selfies, thoughts, fun times, sad times, even family vacations are put out there for public viewing. We are a very visual culture.

I’ve watched so many young ladies grow and change over the years. Many of my Seniors now, I’ve known since they had braces and were in middle school. Watching them grow into young ladies (and young men) has been such a blessing. But they weren’t always the confident teens they are today, ready to tackle the world. Many of them had years of struggle where I watched their confidence flounder and some of them went through rough times. In fact, I’ve watched several of my Seniors literally become the confident young women they are now through the lens of my camera. When they show up with awkward arms, slouching shoulders, nervous smiles and I pose them, laugh with them, pull out their fiery spirits…and TURN MY CAMERA AROUND FOR THEM TO SEE HOW I SEE THEM….it ALL CHANGES!!! They stand taller, their shoulders straighten, their smiles brighten, and their eyes become FIERCE!!

My goal is to help my Seniors see the beauty that I see and to have an unshakable confidence! And a single image can do just that!

So I’ve been thinking…you see, our Grace is 17, a Senior…and she’s ready to tackle the world with that unshakable confidence I was just talking about. She has it! Many of her friends have it. But I then turn around to see Madelyn and Emma, who are now 13….and their sweet friends. And I want that UNSHAKABLE CONFIDENCE for them NOW!

I believe that when young girls have confidence and see their beauty and know their self-worth, they make better decisions for themselves. They value their bodies, their minds, and their spirits. They don’t let others tell them what to do with their bodies, their minds, and their spirits. They don’t have anything to prove….they SEE their beauty, they FEEL the way we celebrate their uniqueness, and they KNOW who they are.

I remember those awkward tween years. The braces, the acne, the body changes….ya’ll it was ROUGH! I literally woke up one day with boobs and had no idea what to do with them. However, the boys surely noticed….praise God my parents had celebrated my fiesty spirit because I remember telling a young fella who was a friend that “if you want to talk to me, my eyes are up here on my face, not on my chest!”. Ummmm…yep, I said it.

Imagine what a single beautiful image could have done for you when you were their age. To be able to see their natural beauty and not think too skinny, too fat, too tall, too short, too many freckles….but to see themselves as beautiful!!!

Instead of having these tween years be the “missing years”…the ones where there aren’t many family portraits because “we’re busy and I’ve gained weight, the kids have braces, etc. etc……” instead, we celebrate our kiddos. We have awesome portraits done of them…portraits that build their confidence, celebrate their braced smiles, and the freckles dancing across their noses!!

As I’ve prayed about this, I’ve decided to open up a Tween and Teen Division of Corry Frazier Photography, specializing in photographing these “in-between” years too…not only the Senior year!! I’ve been working with some of our local kiddos over the last year and we’ve created some beautiful images. In fact, word is spreading so I thought I’d make the announcement publicly. I’ll have some mini sessions this fall and am already booking spring sessions for 2017. I actually had a sweet mom recently book a session for her daughter who will be a high school freshman this year say that all she wanted for her birthday this year was a tutu and a portrait session with me. I CANNOT wait to make her session super special for her!!! And that giant smile when she sees the shots from the back of my camera will make my heart skip a beat!!!!!
