Hi, friend!  I'm Corry.

It’s been a LONG year…like really LONG!!!

And in February, we decided that we needed a break from the routine and craziness of life. We decided to head to the NC Mountains….and we stayed in one of our fave little mountain towns, Boone. If you’ve never been to Boone…I encourage you to visit this precious little town nestled into the Blue Ridge Mountains.

We went for a long weekend and rented a condo from VRBO. We stayed in the Still Lake Haven at Echota Resort. It was the perfect little spot and had plenty of room for our family and another family.

On our first day there, we visited Mast General Store . It’s a MUST DO for our family every time we visit Boone. They have two locations, one in downtown Boone and one is Valle Crucis.

Here we grabbed some ice cold drinks, some candy from the barrels, picked up some country preserves, and even did a little antique shopping. I snapped a few pics of some really neat little nooks that I found as we shopped around. I also walked around back and snapped some beautiful pictures of the winter landscape.

The next day we tried to go snow tubing at Beech Mountain…I wouldn’t recommend that. They were unorganized and it was chaos when the fellas showed up to pick up our tickets. If you are wanting to snow tube, I’d suggest making online reservations at Hawks’ Nest a month or so in advance of your trip. We tried to but because it was a holiday weekend, they were sold out when we went to book them. Lesson learned….

So…..we pivoted our plan for the second day and headed up to Grandfather Mountain State Park. It was chilly and the fog rolled in as we drove up the mountain…but it was still so awesome. I had visited here as a child but don’t remember much…so it was great to be able to see it again.

We were the ones who braved the Mile High Swinging Bridge on this cold and windy day….

Grandfather Mountain is famous for its Mile High Swinging Bridge. The views from the top on a clear day are GORGEOUS….but we weren’t so lucky that day. However, it was still really cool to do!!!! As you crossed over, the winds were howling and it literally sounded like a freight train was rushing through the valley below…which made it all the more thrilling! Hahahaha

I’m not much of an adrenaline junky…but I have been known to go repelling, I enjoy zip-lining and even ropes courses….so this was right up my alley. But I did have to work my nerves up on this one because you couldn’t see the other side as you started across…and ALL the scary movies I’ve ever seen began playing through my mind!! hahaha But I DID IT!!!!!

Kevin walked with me to the other side.

That afternoon, we headed over to another fave little town, Blowing Rock. They have shops and restaurants along their precious little main street. I highly encourage you to take a trip to visit Blowing Rock!!!!

We had lunch at Mellow Mushroom, stopped for spices at The Spice and Tea Exchange, and then visited several little gift shops along the way.

A few of the other GREAT places to visit to eat while you’re in the Boone/ Blowing Rock area:

Blue Deer Cookies CLICK HERE

The Six Pence Pub CLICK HERE

Let us know if you plan to visit or do go visit…there are lots of great hiking trails to take in during the warmer months. I’ll be back there in May, so I’ll try to snag a few of those trails and locations for you!

Head out on your own NC mountain getaway to Boone for some fresh air and wide open spaces!!!! We surely enjoyed our time there!

Blessings,

Corry
