Hi, friend!  I'm Corry.

Because we are all spraying ALL. THE. THINGS….

I have always hated germs….

Like no really…I’ve always been a sprayer of all the things. When Grace was six weeks old, she contracted RSV. It is a respiratory virus that in older children and adults just looks like a cold. But in newborns, it can be deadly. So at six weeks old, she got sick. And it got bad…like really bad.

We had been to the Dr. earlier in the week because I knew she was really sick. The Dr. tested her and it was positive. Since it was a virus, there wasn’t anything they could really give her. He suggested keeping her in an upright position at all times to help that mucus travel down instead of getting clogged up. He told us to keep the air moist and a whole list of other things. So she slept on our chest for weeks and we did exactly what the Dr. told us to do.

I’ll never forget feeding her one afternoon and hearing her chest rattle as her little body began to cough. I sat her up and patted her on the back to try to help her move the mucus through and all of a sudden, she stopped coughing. I looked down at her and she was limp. I yelled for Kevin. He took her from me and as he flipped her over, I saw her little lips turning blue. Kevin is a well trained military police officer and he has done CPR on both adults and children. He is the calm and steady to my chaos and emotions. But when he looked up and said to call 911 I knew it was serious.

Just as I gave the dispatcher our address and she was trying to tell me what to do, I heard baby Grace cry. Kevin had given her a few firm back blows and she began to stir.

The sirens and the EMT’s arrival was all a blur. They decided not to take her in because she was breathing and her color had returned….but they suggested that get her back to the Dr. ASAP. When we went back to the Dr., he said babies like Grace were usually hospitalized, but that it was the middle of flu season and her chances of contracting that were not worth what they’d be doing for her. He preferred we keep her at home but bring her in to the clinic daily through a side entrance to have her checked and to watch her weight. As long as her weight held steady and she continued to feed, he wanted her at home (which made me soooo nervous…but we didn’t want to complicate matters with her getting the flu). He also mentioned that babies as little as Grace sometimes have lasting lung damage and often end up with asthma as a result of what her little lungs were going through.

And wouldn’t you know it….that’s what happened. As Grace grew older, every time she’d get sick, it would go straight to her lungs. She was 14 months old when we moved to Japan and as we began the long trip that January, I recognized that dreaded cough. As soon as we arrived in Japan, she was admitted to the hospital for pneumonia. What a way to try to recover from jet lag?!!? Right?!?!

When I say that I am a germ-a-phobe….it goes back 21 years for me!!!! Even now, she has an inhaler with her at all times.

So I learned to clean like a mad woman. When I would see a kid cough or have a yucky nose at the playground…it was time to pack up and head on home!!!! I became the germ police in so many ways!!!

And now we find ourselves in today’s world!!!! This totally sends me into a panic and all those fears come flooding back. Even though she’s 21 now, you’ll always feel the need to protect your babies. So please excuse me if I seem a little extreme. I try to hide it really well…but just ask our girls. I’m totally a crazy woman about it.

When I ran out of my little bottle of Thieves Spray that I keep in my purse, I made up some of my own to refill it. Several friends asked me to share the recipe with them…so I just thought I’d share it with you guys as well.

Thieves Spray Refill:

In a 2oz glass amber spray bottle add:

10 drops of Young Living Peppermint oil

20 drops of Young Living Thieves oil

Fill more than 1/2 way with isopropyl alcohol

1/4 cap of Thieves Household Cleaner

Top off with distilled water

We spray the doorknobs, our shoes, purse, bags, mail, light switches (spray it on a cloth first), basically ALL THE THINGS!!!!

If you would like to get started with your own Young Living oils, you can do that here.
