Where to?

Hi, friend!  I'm Corry.

I am not good at taking breaks!! I am admittedly a work-aholic.  And I’m working on that (hahahahahaha…yes, I crack myself up!)

But I also LOVE what I do!!!  They always say you know you’re doing what you’re destined to do when you get lost in your work.  That is truly my life.  I can be editing pictures or creating social media posts or blogging and all of a sudden I look up and it’s 4:00!! How the heck did that happen?!?!?!

However, I’ve also learned that I also want to avoid burnout. As a Creative person, I now know that I need some downtime.  Within that downtime…that is where creativity lives.  But I must visit it there…in the quiet moments where I can think, not when I’m doing.  Yes, I do have moments of creative genius while working on a project….Jen and Kim can attest to the texts they receive in those moments.  🙂  But some of my best ideas are in those quiet snippets of time.  It also allows me to recharge.

I need to be in nature…even just a walk, a visit to the beach, some time on the screened porch.  I need to fresh air and sounds to reset my mind.  I can tell when I’m cooped up in my office or working day and night that I get a little grumpy…ok, a lot grumpy!!!  I’ve learned to start my day with a 2 mile walk with the dog.  It helps us both!

I also know that I need to literally walk away (pun totally intended) sometimes too.  We just returned from a weekend away with our oldest daughter at college.  It was great to visit, eat out, cook together in the house we rented, do a little shopping, see a football game, do a ropes course, and visit with friends that joined us on the trip.  It was great to just focus on our family and give them my undivided attention.  They deserve it and I do too!!  Yes, I still took pictures of our adventures….but they were really for us and I did share a few on my social media.  But I wasn’t doing insta-stories the entire trip.  I loaded a few later on the drive home.  I’m determined to live more in the moment this year!!!

I’m also learning to delegate.  This is so hard for me.  I’m a control freak and as a military spouse I have learned that I can do anything I put my mind to!!!  I have literally had to…when your spouse is away for half a year or more…you don’t have another choice but to get stuff done!!!!  So that’s how I roll….but it also leads to burnout.  So I’m trying to job share with Kim for our Military Spouse Creative work.  We are realizing our strengths and who likes to do what.  We are great at communicating with each other and working hand in hand.  I also have an AMAZING assistant, Jen. She is my right hand with my photography business.  She handles all bookings, reminders, placing orders, and client communication.  She is a God-send!!!  She frees up my time to create, edit, and shoot….I couldn’t do what I do if she wasn’t on my team.

So if you are finding yourself in this burnout season….please consider creating some downtime, figure out what recharges you, walk away every now and then, and learn to delegate the tasks you don’t have to do to create profits.  You’ll thank yourself later!!!

Blessings,

Corry
