This family is near and dear to my heart…we’ve worked together many times: Julia created my business logo three years ago, newborn pics (before dad deployed), homecoming #1, Julia’s Small Business shoot, and now homecoming #2.
Homecomings are seriously one of my FAVORITE events to shoot!! They are so full of emotion and happiness!! As a Marine spouse, it always takes me back to our own homecomings.
There’s the anticipation leading up to the big day…you clean like a crazy person (I promise he doesn’t care that the bathroom is spotless), you take care of ALL THE THINGS you promised to do in the last 3 days before he arrives home, you actually shave your legs for the first time in months, you pick out a sexy dress, you stock the fridge with all his favorites, you and the kiddos make (or order) a Welcome Home sign, you clean the house ONE MORE TIME….and then it’s time to head to the homecoming location.
How has it been 180 (or 365) days since you last saw his face? You can’t wait to touch him…to hug him…to kiss him…to just say I Love You face to face!!
Once you arrive, you sweat or freeze your a*% off while you wait…and wait…and wait. But you are surrounded by other sweet families that you hug and laugh about the chaos of the last few months. The kids enjoy snacks, coloring pages, bouncy houses, and play time.
Then you get the word that they’re almost here…and the butterflies begin. All of the emotions that you’ve been hiding from come flooding in.
The tears, the exhaustion, the fear, the relief, happiness….it comes in waves.
And then you run to him…and you’re in his arms…and it’s all ok again!!
We military spouses are a tough group! There are words that are not spoken…there are shared looks…knowing glances…we worry about how the little ones will react to having a Daddy again…we are emotional when Daddy meets the baby that was born while he was gone…and we share those special hugs with the older kids that have done so much that Daddy missed out on.
But when he’s home…all is right in the world again!!
Enjoy this special time sweet Sampsel family!! And I can’t wait to meet Baby Sampsel!!! I’m so happy to see this reunion and can’t wait to see what this next year has in store for you all!!
