Hi, friend!  I'm Corry.

It’s Ok to Eat Cereal for Dinner!

Can we all give ourselves a break?  Many of us are over-stressed, sleep deprived, and burning our candles at both ends!

We are all striving to be the perfect wives, moms, and business owners.  But ya’ll…it’s freaking exhausting!  Add in social media and Pinterest…it’s a recipe for a disaster!  Believe me, I LOVE Pinterest and it’s been a huge help in our health journey…but the plethora of ideas I have pinned make my head spin!!

Heck, I ate fish sticks, beanie wienies, and Kraft Mac and Cheese for pete’s sake.  I even played outside and drank from the water hose…if we were lucky we might get a Dixie cup of Kool-aid!  Yep, that’s the sugary stuff my kids wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole now….but we drank it.

I’m not advocating that we all give our kids kool-aid, but I am saying that we need to cut ourselves some slack!  Seriously, both my parents worked, my brother and I were involved in lots of activities, we went to church, we had Sunday family dinnerss…it was crazy busy, just like my season of life now.  But by the grace of God and lots of love, we all survived!

Yes, we are doing a lot of clean eating due to recent healthy issues, but you know what, sometimes you just have to get by.

Maybe the laundry sits in the basket unfolded an extra day (or in my house…it may be all week).

Maybe the dishes sit in the sink a while longer than I’d like.

Maybe the girls have a week’s worth of clothes on their floor that I’ve yelled about ALL WEEK!

You know what, we’re all clean, fed, and healthy…I’ll take it!  SUCCESS!!

For those of us who are trying to raise a family and a business….and for those moms who are rushing to leave work early to make it to the baseball game…and for those moms who haven’t had a full night’s sleep in months…it’s ok to not always have an instagram-worthy life, house, or dinner!

I’ve decided to give myself some grace on these three things in my life:

1-  All laundry may not get put away as soon as it’s done (don’t tell my girls about this new rule) Hey, if it’s clean, wear it.  I’m not stressing over ironing every morning or making sure the perfect outfits are prepared the night before.  I used to do this when my kiddos were little.  It was super easy to lay out 5 outfits on Sunday night and then we never had to open their drawers in the mornings!!  There was no arguing…it was all agreed upon on Sunday night.  They were able to choose from their “pile” of fabulous outfits.  No more morning overwhelm!!  Now teens are a different story!  By God’s Grace,  help us just be cordial in the mornings between the mascara, hair spray, and finding the other sandal!

2-  My dark hardwoods floors are the bane of my existence!!!  You may not be able to eat off of them everyday, but as long as there are no furballs…it’s all good!  We are lucky that our dog Molly doesn’t have long hair to shed…but I can’t do dust bunnies!  When I can see it and feel it, it’s got to go!  I do a once a day sweep and mop on the weekend and everything in between is just good for the soul!

3-  I LOVE pretty flowers…but if I forget to water them and they die…Lowe’s home improvement is right down the street!  I keep them in business!  🙂 Ya’ll my friend Christy and my mama just died laughing because they know I’m not lying!!  I do love to plan out my garden and my pots…but Lord knows I have a hard time keeping it all watered and alive!!  I try…

Our girls are all teenagers now, but I vividly remember the days when Grace was 4 and the twins were newborns.   I remember my mom calling to check on me and I’d tell her “Hey, we’re all fed and clean…that’s a successful day!”

I’ve always tried to remember that when I’m pushing myself too hard and I feel like I’m about to break…it’s ok to just get by some days.  And it’s ok to eat cereal for dinner!!

Blessings,

Corry
